Pretty cool, not-for-everyone sort of lost missives from one story below the earth. valiant, over dedicated, underpaid, highly trained performers who back up the star. Clearly they understand punk (check the stomping “Peace Police” or their mid-tempo cover of Crass’ “Do They Owe Us A Living”) but there is a homebred darkness about much of what plays out across these two sides that places this firmly in the Real People camp, with deep concerns about society and death that don’t often come across in sane music with such pained honesty. A CHORUS LINE is a celebration of those unsung heroes of the American.
